About historic timber repair

Timber decay survey, reporting and diagnosis

It is important to get a competent surveyor when dealing with timber. Timber surveys are often confined to accessible structures initially, so it can be vitally important to establish if demolition or exposure work is required to assess the condition of timber if any surety is required prior to works.

A sound knowledge of wood decaying fungi and insect attack is vital as The existence of damage caused by wood boring insects does not always indicate a need for remedial treatment; correct identification is essential before any consideration can be given to whether treatment is needed.

Trace offer services that independent consultants provide, but we go beyond their remit in specifying specific Repairs, schedules of workand costs (Consultants limited to condition Reports with generic or no adviceon Repairs).
